Quarantine: Fake News
Hi everyone! How have you been?
Do you know when an information is real or fake? We know it must be hard when getting a bunch of messages or notifications on WhatsApp or Facebook every single day, so let’s learn how to self-check the news and get the facts in pandemic time.
Extremist information and vague information: Well-written and clear information accompanies sources and confirms the possibility of that news is true. Then, pay attention to the writing.
References: With the power of social media, many videos and images are more easily circulated than external links. Images and videos generally do not have references, so it is very important to be suspicious of this type of content, as it spreads quickly. Always check if there is any article published on websites about that particular subject.
Media: When checking if a new item has been published, check if it can be accessed in several media of high circulation and reliability.
International: You can also check if the international information has been published by large foreign media of great influence, if it’s an international content.
Websites that use fake News often utilize some sources to spread lies. It is important to double-check the sources, as the combination of decontextualized information can generate false news. Even images can be forged, such as covers of large magazines containing fake headlines or incomplete affirmations.
Before sharing any information, search a little, take time to validate, don’t just share right away. Whenever you have doubts about the content received, the best option is not to share.
