Quarantine: Fake News
Hi everyone! How have you been?
Do you know when an information is real or fake? We know it must be hard when getting a bunch of messages or notifications on WhatsApp or Facebook every single day, so let’s learn how to self-check the news and get the facts in pandemic time.
Extremist information and vague information: Well-written and clear information accompanies sources and confirms the possibility of that news is true. Then, pay attention to the writing.
References: With the power of social media, many videos and images are more easily circulated than external links. Images and videos generally do not have references, so it is very important to be suspicious of this type of content, as it spreads quickly. Always check if there is any article published on websites about that particular subject.
Media: When checking if a new item has been published, check if it can be accessed in several media of high circulation and reliability.
International: You can also check if the international information has been published by large foreign media of great influence, if it’s an international content.
Websites that use fake News often utilize some sources to spread lies. It is important to double-check the sources, as the combination of decontextualized information can generate false news. Even images can be forged, such as covers of large magazines containing fake headlines or incomplete affirmations.
Before sharing any information, search a little, take time to validate, don’t just share right away. Whenever you have doubts about the content received, the best option is not to share.

To All Women
International Women’s Day (IWD) is celebrated around the world on March 8 every year. It began as a campaign for better working conditions by women in New York at the turn of the 20th century. The first official IWD was on February 28, 1909. No one knows for sure why the date changed to March 8, but this is the date when thousands of women started annual marches in New York’s streets. The first international women’s conference took place in 1910, in Denmark. Since then, IWD has spread around the world. Today it is an important day to highlight the economic, political and social contributions women have made to our world. Women can now be happier that things are moving in the right direction.
IWD is an official holiday in many countries, including Algeria, China, Cuba, Italy, Poland, Vietnam, and Zambia. All across the world, men give flowers and other gifts to the women in their lives – mothers, wives, girlfriends, sisters, teachers, etc. In Portugal and Romania, women celebrate by having “women-only” dinners. IWD is a big event in India, where people hold celebrations throughout the day. Indian men want to show how important women are to their society. All around the world women are becoming more powerful in business, entertainment, politics and other areas. There are over a dozen nations today with women leaders. However, IWD is still necessary to highlight the inequality millions of women still face.
To all women we’d like to show our respect and to say thank you for being brave to stand up for Women’s rights, for all fights. Thank you!
Do you have someone special you want to be thankful? Let us know how much you love this woman.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day
Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a U.S. holiday that celebrates the birth date of one of America’s greatest civil rights leaders. Dr. King’s date of birth is January 15th, but the actual holiday is on the third Monday in January. The holiday recognizes the great achievements Martin Luther King made to American society. His leadership in the campaign to achieve equal rights for black Americans changed America forever. His focus on non-violent protests led to new laws that ended racial discrimination in America. The USA became a more equal society. The holiday is only one of four national holidays in America to commemorate a person. This shows just how important Martin Luther King was – one of the greatest Americans ever.
Dr. King was assassinated in 1968. Just 15 years later, in 1983, then President Ronald Reagan signed this holiday into U.S. law. People first observed the holiday three years later, in 1986. At first, the holiday was not popular with all American states. Some didn’t like the name and so they called it “Civil Rights Day”. However, in the year 2000, all 50 states observed the holiday using its correct name. The musician Stevie Wonder helped the campaign for the holiday. He released a hit single called “Happy Birthday” in 1980. The song made millions of Americans aware of the campaign. Six million people signed a petition for thethe American Congress to create the holiday. It is still the largest petition in U.S. history in favor of an issue.
Martin Luther King, Jr., was a great man who worked for racial equality and civil rights in the United States of America. He was born on January 15, 1929, in Atlanta, Georgia. Martin had a brother, Alfred, and a sister, Christine. Both his father and grandfather were ministers. His mother was a schoolteacher who taught him how to read before he went to school. Martin experienced racism early in life. In most public places, there were signs that said “Whites Only” to tell the black people were not welcome. He decided to do something to make the world a better and fairer place, so he did it. Because of his courage he was named for Nobel Peace Prize and he won it.
Dr. King was assassinated on April 4, 1968, but the memory of his powerful deeds is remembered every year by all americans on the third Monday in January each year.
We invite you to listen to Martin Luther King Jr, most famous speech called ”I Have a Dream”:
Resolutions: Let’s do it!
We are already in December, just a few weeks until 2020. December is a month fully of Holidays, right? For some people Hanukkah celebration, some stick with Christmas Eve and Christmas day, also New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day to finish the year.
It is popular to think about resolutions for the next year, and during the celebration week, people get very determined to start over and change some habits what means new challenges. It is also in the end of the year people often reflect about themselves and their actions toward the other.
How can you start it? Easy! Start thinking what could’ve improved or done through the year and take small steps to lead to bigger things in your life. You could right down some of your wishes and thoughts for 2020 and put on reality.
Some examples:
Adopting a healthier life style: Searching on internet easy recipes to work on your eating habits.
Investing on yourself: What about learning a new language and being able to go in your dreams trip, besides that having an opportunity to get that job you wanted the most.
Making a difference: You can also join a group of volunteers traveling and helping around the world, or starting it at your own house, being concerned about the waste of food, recycling, water resources and so on.
Let’s start the year thinking about this follow sentence: ”A successful small step often inspires us towards bigger things.” Are you ready to start 2020? Do you have already any goal in your mind? Take it easy and make a plan in order to reach it.
